EFSUMB Paediatric CEUS Registry
 

Since 2002 intravenous contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) has been performed in children, with the potential to meet indications normally necessitating CE-CT and CE-MR examinations. Off-label use (and reimbursement) of any drug remains a challenge in paediatric practice in Europe because many drugs are not subject to randomized trials in children, therefore are not specifically licensed for paediatric use. The EFSUMB Paediatric Registry was created with the purpose of collecting data related to paediatric CEUS.

We are inviting paediatricians who are interested to promote paediatric issues in EFSUMB who would like to contribute.

Doppler ultrasound in pregnancy – quality requirements of DEGUM and clinical application (part 2)

Numerous studies in the 2nd and 3 rd trimesters have demonstrated that increased uterine artery indices are associated with more frequent occurrence of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction (FGR), premature placental abruption, stillbirth, etc.. Measurement of the uterine arteries in "low-risk" cohorts between 18+ 0 and 24+ 0 gestational weeks resulted in sensitivities of 40–60 % with a false-positive rate around 10 %. However, the positive predictive values of 25 % for predicting FGR and/or preeclampsia were very low.

There are several methods that show high sensitivity for the detection of breast lesions, e. g. combined use of ultrasound and mammography can reach sensitivity ranging from 92.6 % to 94.4 % in different studies, but with limited specificity in the differentiation of malignant from benign lesions of up to 67.9 %. A similar tendency regarding contrast-enhanced MRI for breast lesions has been published, showing high sensitivity (94 %-100 %), especially for the assessment of tumor vascularity, but poor specificity regarding the differentiation of lesions (37–86 %).
Portal Vein Thrombosis due to Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT) after Covid Vaccination with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19

A 29-year-old male graduate student was vaccinated with the recombinant adenoviral vector encoding the spike protein antigen of SARS-CoV-2 (Astra-Zeneca Vaxzevria). He developed upper abdominal pain without nausea or vomiting 14 days after vaccination. The abdominal symptoms were followed by headache two days later. He interpreted his symptoms as stress related to the finalization of his master's degree thesis. Two days later he noticed skin petechia and went to the emergency medical service.
