30th Euroson Congress of the EFSUMB

The next EUROSON meeting will take place this year in Poznan, Poland from the 6 – 9 September in conjunction with the Polish Society. Preparations are well advanced with a lively program scheduled in the delightful setting of the charming city of Poznan. This year there is an ultra-early registration fee set at a very reasonable cost; look on the website and book now to take advantage of this extremely generous registration fee. Bericht zur DEGUM-Pressekonferenz am 12. Dezember 2018 in Berlin

Bei vielen Untersuchungen ist die Ultraschalldiagnostik die Methode der Wahl. Eine wichtige Voraussetzung für ein treffsicheres Ergebnis ist jedoch die Qualifikation des untersuchenden Arztes. Diese ist aber nicht immer ausreichend vorhanden: So wird beispielsweise bei Routineschwangerschaftsuntersuchungen nur ein Drittel aller Herzfehler bei Ungeborenen erkannt. Mit Blick auf die aktuelle Novellierung der (Muster-)Weiterbildungsordnung für Ärzte forderten Experten der DEGUM deshalb auf einer Pressekonferenz in Berlin klare Qualitätsrichtlinien für die Ultraschalldiagnostik.

Management of Intrauterine Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) in 14 Patients by Sonographically Guided Tisseel Application

AVMs are rare tumorous vascular lesions derived from placental tissue that may present with massive post-partum hemorrhage (PPH) causing potentially life-threatening anemic shock. The study presents a new form of minimally invasive, highly specific sonographically guided treatment in the form of the application of a human fibrin sealant leading to the instant cease of blood loss.

Color Tissue Doppler to Analyze Fetal Cardiac Time Intervals: Normal Values and Influence of
Sample Gate Size

The purpose of this study was to asses the time intervals of the cardiac cycle in healthy fetuses in the second and third trimester using color tissue Doppler imaging (cTDI) and to evaluate the influence of different sizes of sample gates on time interval values.

Early diagnosis and treatment of leprosy and leprosy reactions are essential to prevent stigmatizing deformities and disability. New tools are needed to better diagnose and monitor leprosy reactions and associated neuritis and this study assessed whether high-resolution sonography (HRUS) can be used as such a tool.
